This play is a collaboration between Orange County for Darfur and Moving Target Theatre.  Like most of our projects, this play was done in true grassroots fashion with everyone volunteering their time and energy.  Below are the bio's of some of the team members.

Michael David Fox (director)

Michael is the founder and Artistic Director of Moving Target Theatre. He received a B.A. in philosophy and comparative literature from Queens College, a J.D. from the University of Wisconsin Law School, an M.F.A. in directing from the University of California, Irvine, and a Ph.D. in Drama and Theatre from the joint doctoral program of the University of California, Irvine, and the University of California, San Diego. He has staged more than 50 productions, ranging from the classics to the contemporary avant garde, and has published works on Shakespeare, Samuel Beckett, and modern drama. Michael has received an AFL-CIO Award for Meritorious Service for Commitment to Human Rights.

Winter Miller (playwright)

Winter Miller wrote In Darfur based on interviews conducted in March 2006 at the Sudan border with genocide survivors. Ms. Miller said “I had no idea how to portray something as incomprehensible as genocide, but I couldn’t write this play if I wasn’t on the ground to see it with my own eyes.”

Ms. Miller is the former research assistant to Nicholas Kristof, the Pulitzer Prize-winning New York Times columnist who often writes about the genocide in Darfur to raise awareness. She’s now a reporter on the Time’s Metropolitan news desk. Her other plays include: Conspicuous; The Penetration Play; Cake and Ice Cream; Greetings from Vietnam; and Wish You Were Here.

Ms. Miller said the goal in writing this play is “a seed planted in the audience’s mind that leads them to ask, “What will I do, knowing what I now know?”

Erin Mullaly (stage manager)

Erin is an art major at California State University Long Beach. She would like to thank Joseph Byrd for opening one more artistic door for her.

Veronica Vicqueneau (set and costume design)

Veronica was born in France and raised by the border of Spain.  She is an educator and artist with a passionate commitment to human development.

When I was young, I wanted to be a missionary in Africa, already at that time I was very sensitive to social justice. Since, I have never seized to be concerned by humanitarian efforts. As an artist I use my art as a political tool to raise awareness and create social change. As an educator I advocate for human rights and always teach respect.

I am very proud to be involved with Orange County for Darfur in helping to raise awareness about Darfur’s tragedy and violation of human rights. I believe that peace and respect of human rights will be obtained by every women and men involvement and commitment.

“It isn't enough to talk about peace.  One must believe in it.  And it isn't enough to believe in it.  One must work at it.” -- Eleanor Roosevelt (1884-1962)

I am working at it…

Wilfredo Benitez-Rivera

Wilfredo Benitez describes himself as a parish priest, activist, and an artist. He is the current rector of St. Anselm of Canterbury Episcopal (Anglican) Church, in Garden Grove, California. He is actively involved in interfaith peace and justice work. Prior to ordination to the priesthood in 1991, Wilfredo was engaged in a career involving counseling and community organizing, in the city of New York.

He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in Sociology from the Universidad InterAmericana de Puerto Rico; a Master of Science in Education degree with a concentration in Cross-Cultural Counseling from the Bank Street College of Education, in New York City; and a Master of Divinity degree from the General Theological Seminary, also in New York City. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of Progressive Christians Uniting, and is a member of the Middle East Task Force of the Episcopal Diocese of L.A. and other activist organizations.

David Salahi

David is a web designer/developer and helped create the marketing flyer for this project.  His other volunteer activities include being involved in his church, the Orange County MultiMedia Assn., the Sierra Club, and the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary.

I was glad to see O.C. for Darfur doing something to raise awareness of this ongoing crisis. It's hard to fathom how the world has allowed this tragedy to continue year after year. Perhaps, when enough people realize how horrific the situation is we'll develop the political will to end it.

You can see David's work at artistic-webdesign.com.

Amol Mittal

Amol is a web developer and self proclaimed computer geek. He helped design the program guide for the play.

To me, simply wearing a green rubber band or signing online petitions felt like not really doing much at all. Inspired upon learning of this huge volunteer effort for the purpose of educating people about Darfur, I offered to contribute in whichever manner best suited or needed. I just wish I could be there to catch a performance.
