Summer Body Group: Grounding and Relatedness

Living Ubuntu summer body group

Too often unexpressed feelings, unmet needs, and ongoing stressors in life take us away from living in a state of felt connection to our own body. This disconnection inevitably compromises our sense of groundedness. Being ungrounded reduces our ability to know our own self, be in contact with others, and pursue living the fully alive life.

This summer group will offer a combination of breathing, stretching, grounding, and Trauma Releasing Exercises (TRE) as part of the process of remembering and re-experiencing what it feels like to live in our own skin.  After somatic exercises, there will also be time for personal sharing with others in the group.

If you are new to Trauma Releasing Exercises, scheduling to arrive 30 minutes in advance of the group start time for an introductory explanation is required. There is no additional fee for this time and is necessary for you to benefit from these exercises. Please contact us to schedule this time.

Most of Barbara English's professional experience has been lived out within the field of psychotherapy. For the past 12 years she has been in private practice as a licensed Marriage Family Therapist. She is a Certified Bioenergetic Therapist, works from a mind-body perspective, and utilizes somatic methods as part of the process toward healing and a sense of wellbeing. Much of her training has centered on early development (e.g. Infant Mental Health) and how to recover after abuse or trauma.

Barbara is co-founder and Executive Director of Living Ubuntu.

What is TRE?

Trauma Releasing Exercises (TRE) is a breakthrough in trauma recovery and stress management. It is a body centered method of recovery that helps release the deep chronic tension created in a body during a traumatic or stressful experience. It is easily learned, immediately effective and self-empowering because it can be used without the guidance of a therapist. This method has been used successfully in over 10 different countries with families, organizations, and schools in diverse populations and cultures.

David Berceli PhD, an international expert in the field of trauma intervention and conflict resolution, is the creator of TRE.  Here is feedback from previous attendees of a TRE workshop.
