When Anxiety Holds You Back

Those of us who are anxious often feel compelled to keep what we are afraid of a secret.  This secret festers and causes us to become even more anxious. The more we avoid, the more anxious we become.  Have you ever put off a telephone call to find that it gets harder and harder to make that call?

Often if you're anxious, this condition is manifested by obsessive-compulsive behaviours, and or phobias.  These symptoms cause considerable suffering but more importantly, they keep the person from living up to his potential because he/she is continually attempting to reduce anxiety by avoiding situations and experiences.

In this workshop we will explore the nature of anxiety and help participants learn how to overcome this shame.

mac eaton phdMac Eaton, PhD. is a psychologist in private practice in Del Mar and Redlands, California. He taught on the faculty at CSU San Bernadino for over 10 years where he helped create the Masters' program in Counseling.  Mac’s approach to his work emphasizes the priority of relationship and the power of bodywork.

He has been practicing psychotherapy for forty years, has trained several generations of psychotherapists and been keynote speaker at two conferences.

I have been troubled by anxiety all my life, and part of my interest in working with this problem is healing myself.  I would like to share in this workshop some approaches that I have found helpful.

The defenses we erect to protect us create the very condition we are trying to avoid. Thus, when someone builds a castle to protect his liberty, he ends up as a prisoner in his own castle because he dares not leave it...

No person is free who is tied to a defensive position.
