The UN has released a report stating that the Sudanese government is responsible for killing several civilians residing in the Kalma IDP camp in South Darfur in August of 2008.

According to the office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights –

Security forces failed to abide by international law principles of proportionality and of necessity. Witness testimonies confirmed that security forces shot arbitrarily at a large crowd of IDPs including women and children.

33 people died and 108 were wounded from the August 2008 incident.

A Sudanese government spokesperson denied the UN report, claiming that individuals inside the Kalma camp shot at security forces first.
