What does this say about our society?

I recently had a conversation about the Presidential election. In response to hearing puzzlement over how well Donald Trump has done in the campaign, I made an off-hand remark about our society’s collective trauma becoming more obvious. Yet, my comment was greeted with additional puzzlement: what trauma? We still have a very long way to go toward developing a trauma-informed society.

Dr. Gabor Maté asks us one of the most obvious questions that somehow doesn’t seem to be getting talked about enough:

What does it say about our society that such deeply troubled individuals frequently rise to the top ruling circles, attaining wealth and power and even the admiration of millions?

On Sunday, November 20, we are hosting, An Evening of Compassion and Being Together. We have chosen to schedule it for a short time after the Presidential election precisely because we want to encourage people to come together, be together, remember a sense of healthy humanity and that we are all interconnected (despite race, ethnicity, gender, religion, class, or species). The pursuit of the compassionate path is essential. The event is a fundraiser for Living Ubuntu, intended to reaffirm “Ubuntu”.
