Expanding the Circle of Compassion

Guess who has a birthday coming up?

Hi everyone,

Understanding Burma: An Evening With Tim Hardy

We had over a 100 people attend Understanding Burma: An Evening With Tim Aye Hardy this past Thursday. One of the most privileged aspects of having Tim in town, was to be able to spend time with him at lunch and hear his horrifying account of leaving his family and home behind while only 17. He is an incredibly courageous person and we are grateful that he flew out here from New York to share his story with us.  Click here to see pictures from the event.

In our five years of existence, Living Ubuntu has never done a fundraiser. We’ve organized workshops, plays, photoshoots, groups, screenings, mini-workshops, talks, retreats… all through the efforts of volunteers and finding creative ways to cover costs. However, in our quest to grow and offer more regular services to the community, we realize that we will need a stronger (financial) foundation.

Next Saturday, July 17th is the 10th birthday of the International Criminal Court (ICC). It is the first “independent, permanent court that tries persons accused of the most serious crimes of international concern, namely genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes.”

Given our focus on trauma and human rights, we are very glad global institutions like the ICC exist. So… to celebrate this significant milestone in the life of this young institution, we are holding a small get-together next weekend. And yes, this is our first attempt at a mini-fundraiser.

All the details are below. Hope you will join us in the celebration.
